Pedal Prix has concluded for another year and here are this year's statistics. 'On the Fly' traveled a total of 382 laps of Murray Bridge's 1.7km circuit for a total of 649.4km. 'On the Fly' finished in 29th position in the S2 category, where there was a total of 64 cars registered. This was 166 laps behind the category winner 'Phoenix' from Pembroke School in Adelaide. Overall placing was 101 out of a total of 198 cars on the track. The top speed reached by 'On the Fly' was 39.39km/h and quickest lap was completed in 2 minutes and 36 seconds. 'Winging It' experienced some mechanical issues following some heavy on course contact and a tyre puncture early Sunday morning and did a great job working to keep the car on the road. They finished in overall 131st position which was 44th in the S2 (Middle School) category. The vehicle traveled 344 laps of the course for a total of 584.8km. Top speed achieved in 'Winging It' was 37.3km/h and quickest lap time was achieved in 2 minutes and 44 seconds. Together the cars traveled 726 laps of the course (1,234.2km) which when placed on a map of Australia was far enough to see them cycle from Adelaide to Canberra (1159km). Racing throughout the night is a challenging undertaking. Our vehicles have taken a battering in the day time competition and a thorough service was necessary to ensure that mechanical issues had been been resolved, cosmetic damage had been repaired and that as much as possible we would not face delays in the pits due to mechanical failures. All vehicles are required to be fitted with both front and rear tail lights and many choose to have additional LED lights installed to help identify individual vehicles to their team management crew. Teams are rotating through the evening over a three hour time period. The evening temperature is expected to drop to 4 degrees so things are expected to be super chilly as we work our way through the early morning. 9/21/2019 0 Comments Race Action - 3 hours inThis year is perhaps our most challenging race with a difficult wet start and plenty of on course contact. Visibility has been difficult due to Murray Bridge living up to its nick name 'Murray Fridge' and the inside windscreens of the cars have been fogging up as a result. Overnight temperatures tonight are due to drop to 4 degrees, which will see riders reluctant to get up, change back into their wet riding clothes and then commence their mission in the dark. Everyone is in great spirits, team work is improving and we have settled into 'The Grind'. Currently 'On the Fly' is in position 35 in the S2 (Middle School) category with 56 laps completed. 'Winging It' has completed 52 laps and is in 45th position. In total there are 64 teams racing in this category. 9/21/2019 1 Comment 2019 24 hour race beginsRace prep is finished and gridding up is about to commence. The weather has been challenging this morning with light to medium showers making their way over Murray Bridge. We are gridding up in position 152 and 158. There are just over 200 cars on the grid, so the first hour of racing is promising to be a real thriller as cars jostle for position and establish their race strategy.
9/20/2019 0 Comments The journey to dateWe had a great trip over to Murray Bridge. First leg was up to Samaritan College in Whyalla and sleep over, which made for a shorter journey through to Murray Bridge in the morning. EP Bus Charters have looked after us really well, ensuring a comfortable and smooth trip. Kiplings Bakery in Balaklava was our go to stop for lunch on Friday and we relaxed for a few moments near the Mangrove lake. Arriving into Murray Bridge at 1.30pm, the afternoon was spent constructing our campsite and pits, familiarizing ourselves with the track and working through the afternoon time trial event which for S1 (primary school) and S2 (middle school) cars took from 5pm until 6.30pm. Once the track was cleared of these categories, the Senior School Students (S3) and adult community categories took to the track. The top 14 cars after these time trials are invited into the 'Shoot Out' which takes place at 9.30am Saturday morning. The outcome of the shootout will determine the top placings on the grid.
9/18/2019 1 Comment Fitness PreparationFrom the beginning of Term 1 aerobic conditioning was prioritized and developed as part of our weekly routines. 5km running, working through wet conditions with alternative indoor programs and developing muscular endurance on the spin bikes has been a key focus. Here is a small video of the type of training the team has performed. Tonight we leave for Whyalla, before heading to Murray Bridge where the race is held. 9/16/2019 1 Comment Team updateTeam InterviewsChloe Boud
"My journey so far in Pedal Prix has been fun whilst being painful, we have done C25K (couch to 5km), spin classes on the bikes at Maisha Fitness. We have had some laughs along the way and have also have done workouts in the classroom on rainy mornings. We have experienced sore muscles from pushing a little too hard, but we know that it is just a sign that we are improving." "I feel pretty good considering this is my first year going to Pedal Prix. The thing that I would say that I am most scared about is being flipped during the race at Murray Bridge." "Some personal goals that I have for myself are; to not get flipped, to see an improvement in my fitness and running, and lastly to build strong relationships with my classmates whilst over in Murray Bridge." Samuel Prime "I started Pedal Prix last year because Mr. Fraser thought that since I could run well, that I would be good at riding in the Pedal Prix cars. Pedal Prix is not only being able to ride a bike, but having the commitment to come to training, to participate and help out where you can and not just sit around doing nothing." "My personal goal is to beat my last achievement of 18 laps and just generally do better than last year. I think I will do better than I did last year, as I'll be more experienced than my first time." "What I'm looking forward to is to see who will be able to get the fastest lap for our team. Tip to new riders is to pace yourself; don't go too hard, but make sure you push yourself." 9/6/2019 1 Comment Meet the teamThis year we welcome our 10 new riders joining our Murray Bridge team. Some have competed previously in the Adelaide 6 hour events, but this year they have made the decision to step it up to the 24 hour event. For others, this is their first time in the cars and competing in a Pedal Prix event. Joining the journey this year are... Continuing their Murray Bridge Journey (2017-2019) is 10 familiar faces... "I have been doing Pedal Prix since Year 6 (2017) and have loved every second of it! I have loved being part of such a fun event. It's pretty scary and nerve-wracking to know that we are so close to the event (2 weeks!) however, I am also very excited for what is to come this year and the new experiences I'm going to have." "My personal goal this year is to push myself. I feel last year I didn't push myself as much as I could have, but this year my goal is to set a speed of 35 km/h for one lap! Go hard and fast." "For new riders this year, my advice is to go hard, but not on your first lap. You don't want to tire yourself out. DON'T EAT HEAPS OF JUNK BEFORE THE RACE!! And have fun, you only get this experience once a year so make it worthwhile." Angus Clark “This is my first year on the team and my journey has been hard keeping up with the fitness however, I manage to persevere. I'm nervous with little time to go, especially since we have only been in the car once and I'm not sure how I'm going to go. Sadly, last week I injured my ankle during PE, but I hope it heals in time before the event.” “I'm mainly looking forward to having a go and giving it my best and trying to stand out from the crowd. This will be an amazing experience.” |
